The Photographer

Lawrence Steinke

Lawrence (Lars) Steinke - Lethbridge and Southern Alberta based photographer.

I was born on Mile 0 of the Alaska Highway and been exploring the wilds of Western Canada ever since. I spent many of my formative years in Northern British Columbia in the Mackenzie area before living on the edge of Jasper National Park in Hinton Alberta. I spent a short stint out east while attending Queen’s University but was lured back to the west by the call of the Rockies and moved to Lethbridge in the 80’s. With the exception of a year and a half spent living in Budapest, Lethbridge has been my home for more than thirty years.

Having been involved in photography since I was a teenager, I learned to develop my own photographs at that time and enjoyed the darkroom process and this has now transferred over into the digital era. I have been fortunate to have been published in numerous magazines, books, and newspapers and have had numerous curated showings in galleries. I have moved between genres of photography over the years including extensive amounts of time shooting only in black and white film.

I have been involved with athletics at the local, provincial, national and international level most of my life and it was an honour representing Canada at the international level for just over fifteen years. This morphed into the privilege of working and photographing at four Olympic Games.

It would be my privilege to create photographs for you, look forward to hearing from you soon.
